Wyatt Blair, is the project of Wy Wy, an artist based in Los Angeles who is doing much for the local scene. We remember that the first album of Wyatt Blair exploded the power pop scene. It was called Banana Cream Dream, it was released in 2013 and honestly, I still didn't recover.

Wyatt Blair is also the head of the label Lolipop Records on which I had the occasion to write about many times. He worked as well for Burger Records with which he still keeps a very strong connection.

After three years of work in studio, Wyatt Blair finally realized one of his craziest ambitions: to release a second album which would be so iconic that it would just create shade on the first LP. Lets starts with it, Point Of No Return is not just another power-pop record. We can't find much code of the genre, the ghost of Big Star and Milk'n'Cookies only left space to other influences.

No worries though, this new album is a true hit that would please every single pop amateurs. Yes, no less. His 80's universe voluntarily overact makes Point Of No Return one of the 2016 highlight's, not a coincidence if it was released simultaneously on Lolipop and Burger

"Dancing On A Dream" is already a blessing. I know, I already made references to Ferries Bueler (too) many times, but promise, this time is the one. And for good reason, how not think to this "Slacker from Chicago" during this introduction track?

I can't hide that "Monday Morning Mess" is probably the song which wins my heart on this album. Always that same drum machine which reminds you the good ol' times when Ronald W. Reagan was president of the USA. It offers the sound of a Pepsi can that opens and the subtle caress of the wind on palm-trees overlooking the filming of "Miami Vice". The music video measures up to all our hopes and even more. Deliberately playing on that "unfashionable" card, Wyatt Blair and his way-too-wide costume are going to put a smile on our face for the next months. This music video, to be clear, is absolutely unmissable.

"Young Hearts Unite" complete the introduction trio by being even faster. We finally have the answer to the question that everyone ask: who framed Roger Rabbit? Probably Wyatt Blair and his 100% self-confident rock'n'roll.

"Cruel World" and his DEVO-stye intro is the title of the fake desperate lover, the "Say Anything" of the music. The world is cold and mean and Wyatt Blair's music counterbalance with such a kind pop music that it could make us lose our habits. And "In The Name Of Love" shows up to remind the essential. Wyatt Blair can't stop to get caught up in that Dallas universe. He has a yo-yo, marbles and cassette tape in his bumbag. It also has pearly marble, this is love.

The true song of the genre remains "Patience". Everything is in it to end up with teary eyes, the endless slow dance (which hurts the shoulder), the empty-candy machine and Wyatt Blair who plays in depth the 1.0 romanticism. As for "So You Wanna Break My Heart", it starts on a more animated basis, towards the pop scene of the end of the 80's. And let's wander off with Ferris Bueler, this time, I can't resist, here is the trailer :

"No Surrender" is one of the biggest hit of this album. The melody totally comes out, it is as good as an Operation game. Once again, far from his initial power pop, Wyatt Blair attacks with brilliance the next decade. We can even find the guitar of the Homosexuals.

"Tonight's The Night" says it all. A translation of the excitement before our first teenagers parties, when we were leaving behind the Atari 2600 to slump on a couch, scared to make a faux-pas in front of Josephine. Guaranteed more exhilarating than one hour with Micro Machines.

"Double Rainbow" shows us that Wy Wy built his LP like a concept-album on the topic of a 7 days week. The introduction "Monday" slowly took us to "Tonight's The Night", before "Double Rainbow" refers to what happens in the bedroom, the Saturday night coming (Wyatt Blair says it during the introduction). This is irresistible.

"Cherry Pie" gets one step further on the spleen pop matters but this time, we are closer to the Nintendo NES. And then, "Alter Ego" brings back for the last time the show-off leitmotiv of this album, the fluorescent Fisher Price rollerblade of 2016.

In the end, I don't have the memory that I heard such a good record that plays with the 80's revival (Hello Golden Silvers). And if I have never been crazy about the 1980 decade, how to not kneel in front of this new work from Wyatt Blair? I do, just as I used to do back in the days in front of my black and white Gameboy.
You understood (let's be serious for a bit), this LP is the one with the biggest entertainment ability of those last months. It seems like nothing special, a non-pretentious album, that gives a smile and that we want to keep listening after months/years but its a lot, and maybe even....a big lot. Wyatt Blair is a master in the art of pop music, he respects the codes like no one and that one knowledge awards him the ability to go further. From now on, Point Of No Return needs to have the success that it deserves.

This album can move many auditors because it is full of melodies, because it is really well produced (Lolipop studios), because it has a really well identified message and because its leader is super charismatic. Let's wish it a success as explosive as were our old badass firecracker.
