Brandy – The Gift Of Repetition
LP, Total Punk Records, 18 September 2020
[garage rock]
EN: Brandy is a New York band that I already talked about (read). At the time, its production was (too?) lo-fi, and its garage rock had a clear love for violence. To put it differently, I wasn’t expecting The Gift Of Repetition. We knew that Brandy could produce good garage rock, but this LP has something more, it’s one of the best albums of the year. The “oh my god” of “(Wish You Was) Madball Baby” kills me from the start while “UFO’s 2 Heaven” and the absolute hit that is “Clown Pain” finish me off. This album is indeed one of the best garage things of 2020. It’s a demonstration! – [favorite song: “(Wish You Was) Madball Baby“].
– [titre préféré : “(Wish You Was) Madball Baby“].

Plebs – “Lunch Break Gym Sesh” / Fighter Jets
Single, Surveillance Records, August & September 2020
[garage pop]
EN: I told you about Plebs last March (here). He’s coming back these days with two singles, “Lunch Break Gym Sesh” and “Fighter Jets“, proving that he is indeed one of Melbourne’s crème de la crème. On the first one, Plebs attacks with some pop and colorful chords. The song finally turns to more noisy music, and it’s excellent. With “Fighter Jets“, he plays with an ineradicable drum/bass combo and a super-saturated guitar. It’s another a hit. Yeah, Plebs is one of the most promising Australian bands.

Shame – “Alphabet
Single, Dead Oceans, 10 September 2020
[war rock]
EN: Shame is one of these English bands that many have described as the UK scene “rescuers”. The title of his first album, Songs of Praise, encapsulates all that expectation that usually turns into pop-rock porridge. But Shame has just released a single – in Idles’ style – which effectively confirms some of those hopes. Entitled “Alphabet“, it gives pride to this rock’n’roll cut out for the battlefield. It’s nervous, it’s powerful, it’s good.

Dennis Cometti – “Waxit
Single, Bargain Bin Records, 23 October 2020
[punk 77′]
EN: I named 2017 the “Australian year” when Dennis Cometti released his very good album (here). On October 23rd, he will be back with a new LP, but I couldn’t really wait until then to tell you about it. So here is his first single, “Waxit“. Dennis hasn’t changed anything in his formula: his thing is 77′ punk like (almost) nobody can do anymore. No band has been this close to The Saints for 30 years.
