Public Body – “Ask Me Later” & “Table Manners
Single, Public Body Recordings, 5 March 2021
[post-punk]
🇬🇧
EN: Public Body is a band from Brighton (UK) who, in March of this year, combined two of his singles in a great 7inch. The first one is “Ask Me Later“. The song goes fast, it denounces “stuff” but remains fun. As for the first seconds of “Table Manners“, it starts like an Australian post-punk song. But Public Body isn’t here to play the puppet. The track has a Martian feel to it, and at times, surprises us by breaking the rhythm. On the whole, Public Body answers well to the codes of the beginning of 2020s (a spoken voice à la Stephen Malkmus, a post-punk but pop instrumental, a rather clean production..). We must count on him for beautiful things to come.

SMIRK – EP
EP, Total Punk Records, 25 May 2021
[garage rock]
🇺🇸
EN: Smirk is a band from California who already released a good first album earlier this year: the so-called LP. They are back with EP, 7 songs that follow each other in a similar fashion. Smirk has fun taking the codes of garage music, and mixing them with a weirdo production that reminds me of Silicone Prairie. The single, “Staring at Screens“, is a good example of what he can do best. It seems like Smirk is more than a passing band, maybe even a pillar of the Californian scene in the making…

CLAMM – Beseech Me
LP, Meat Machine, 9 April 2021
[garage punk]
🇦🇺
EN: I already talked about Clamm in April 2020 (article). The band from Melbourne is part of the magical clique of Vintage Crop, RMFC, Stiff Richards, Civic, and so on… On April 9th, he gathered all his best tracks in a good LP that could very well be a milestone of the Australian scene. We recognize “Liar“, “Confused” and other songs of his. This official put Clamm on the list of the good bands to be included in all Australian music compilations. We would have liked more new tracks, but they should come very soon…

Metdog – Tesla”
Single, 26 May 2021
[egg punk]
🇦🇺
EN: Metdog is a band in a hurry. He releases singles without ever bothering to put them together in one album. It’s in line with the zapping culture, but I’m fine with it. I must say that the songs are excellent. “Tesla“, his latest single, is a good example of what the egg punk of Metdog can do best. His formula could even take him far: Metdog works with a 2 or 3 seconds loop, and often he ends up adding a guitar solo that makes you happy. The whole thing is mixed with sound bites dealing with Tesla, or CNN. In the fashion of Metdog Blues, Metdog is promising and unpredictable.
