One For the Kids by Metdog
🇺🇸 Garage punk will never die, Metdog is proof of that as it shows how one can constantly reinvent the genre. Usually confined to familiar formats (which we all love), Metdog dares to push garage punk toward something closer to the weirdo / experimental sounds of the 1970s. Negative Freaks by TH da Freak
🇺🇸 Negative Freaks is a masterpiece that will stand out in the discography of what I called the greatest French band of all time (any problem with that?!). It delivers everything we love about TH through 12 tracks, each built around a strong, instantly recognizable theme. It’s hit after hit, with the kind of coherence that defines the greatest records (even when they’re dark) when everything just clicks. Raw Muscular Power by Death By Unga Bunga
🇺🇸 What a prod! Death By Unga Bunga dives headfirst into what you might call post-2001 (like the Strokes on underground steroids, à la Sheer Mag or Dumb) and they do it better than ever. Raw Muscular Power is their best album to date, a concentrate of post-adolescent energy packed with testosterone (muscle mass!) and street fights straight out of The Warriors (1979). Death By Unga Bunga fait dans ce que l’on peut qualifier de post-2001 (Strokes sous stéroïdes plus underground, façon Sheer Mag et Dumb), et il le fait mieux que jamais. Who Let The Dogs Out by Lambrini Girls
🇺🇸 I’ve never been a big fan of political albums. And yet, Who Let The Dogs Out feels like one of the inevitable winners of this first half of 2025. The tracks radiate a raw, pissed-off energy fueled by a desire to change the world. Lambrini Girls place their LP firmly in the Riot Grrrl lineage, and it’s glorious. Et pourtant, Who Let The Dogs Out me semble être l’un des inévitables gagnants de cette première moitié de 2025, tant les morceaux dégagent une énergie brute et énervée, portée par l’envie de changer le monde. Phantom Island by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
🇺🇸 These journalists can’t count anymore. Some say Phantom Island is King Gizzard’s 27th studio album, others the 28th. What’s certain is that the band keeps flooding us with releases every year which, inevitably, dilutes the sense of excitement with each drop. I approached this new LP thinking I might find something to enjoy, but without big hopes. Yet within minutes, King Gizzard reminded me why they’re the best Australian band of their generation (and maybe even of all time?). [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 Ils ne savent plus compter, ces journalistes. Certains disent que Phantom Island est le 27ᵉ album studio de KGLW, d’autres le 28ᵉ. Le fait est que King Gizzard nous abreuve chaque année de multiples hits, ce qui vient avec le risque de décroître l’intérêt lié à chaque sortie. J’ai donc procédé à l’écoute de ce nouvel LP en me disant que j’y trouverais peut-être mon bonheur, mais sans certitude. Kick It Over by Motorbike
🇺🇸 Now here’s one I didn’t see coming. I entered 2025 without knowing Motorbike, but probably drawn in by the cover art and the promise of biker vibes, I gave this LP a shot and with its almost-psychedelic flights, it continues to fascinate me. Motorbike weaves fragments of multiple genres throughout Kick It Over, and I’m still finding and savoring them. [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 En voilà un que je n’avais pas vu venir. Je suis rentré dans 2025 sans connaître Motorbike et, mais, probablement attiré par la pochette et la promesse d’un moment en compagnie de bikers, je me suis laissé tenter par cet LP qui, avec ses envolées presque psychédéliques, continue de me fasciner. 🇺🇸 This one got me with the concept alone. Let’s say it plainly: Elvis 2 is the best idea to come out of the first half of 2025. The Melbourne-based band presents a zombie reincarnation of the King himself, channeling that into a garage rock sound that’s dirty, cheeky, and wildly high-energy. Unforgettable! [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 Celui-ci m’a eu au concept. Disons-le, Elvis 2 est la meilleure idée de cette première moitié de 2025. Le groupe, originaire de Melbourne, propose une réincarnation zombie du grand Presley : il met ce concept au service d’un garage rock à la fois sale, taquin, et sacrément énergivore. Inoubliable ! Chainmail Commandos by STERÖID
🇺🇸 The egg punk album of the season! The genre keeps producing excellent LPs, but Steröid stands out thanks to a few tracks where the mid-fi production hides some killer melodies. What if injecting raw punk energy into a genre normally boxed in by drum machines turns out to be one of the best discoveries of 2025? [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 L’album egg punk des derniers mois !
