Best of the 2010s: The best labels of the decade

BEST OF THE 2010s
n°5/20

It’s about time: let’s celebrate the end of the decade. I have decided to dedicate the entire month of December to what made the beauty of the 2010s. In total, I will publish 20 articles dedicated to the last ten years, all gathered on this dedicated page: here. Let’s go!

*****

5. Castle Face Records / In The Red Recordings

Home of the Oh Sees (John Dwyer is the label’s owner), Castle Face is an institution for anyone who cares about garage, psych or surf rock, experimental things and, often, a music far too dirty to reach the radios. The same is true for In The Red Recordings which has released some of the best albums of the entire decades.

4. Howlin Banana Records

Howlin Banana is solely responsible for the French revolution. Well, the revolution of the 2010s. I will never forget all of these Howlin’s shows, they allowed the emergence of a French scene that, for the first time in a long time, considered itself as such (which other French labels have never managed to achieve).

3. Drag City Records

We sure owe Ty Segall’s explosion to Drag City. The label has set fire to all the powders that had been lying around in garages for too long. Without Drag City, the garage scene that has characterized the past 10 years so well would not has been what it is. The label has not only set the tone, but it also has set a standard.

On doit l’explosion Ty Segall à Drag City.

2. Captured Tracks

Captured Tracks is probably the label that has released the most albums to be considered in any serious top 100 LPs of the decade. Not only did he bring Mac DeMarco to the forefront, but he also embodied what pop has done best during the 2010s.

1. Burger Records

Burger Records is embodying the sound of the 2010s. To say that a band sounds like a “Burger band” is now a thing, it has become a formula that will mark the history of rock’n’roll. The 2010s were Burger years.
